Old York Road (originally York Road) is a roadway that was built in the 18th century to connect Philadelphia with New York h New Jersey it was built along the Raritan (Unami tribe) "Naraticong Trail", also known as the Tuckaraming Trail. A memorial plaque to the friendship of the Naraticong Indians, who permitted the road to be built over their trail, sits at the intersection of Old North end: Elizabeth, New Jersey. The Road describes the journey south taken by a young boy and his father after an unnamed catastrophe has struck the world. The man and the boy, who also remain unnamed throughout the entire novel, travel through the rough terrain of the southeastern United conditions they face are unforgiving: rotted corpses, landscapes devastated by fire, abandoned towns and : Cormac Mccarthy.

ABOUT THIS BOOK Set in the smoking ashes of a postapocalyptic America, Cormac McCarthy's The Road tells the story of a man and his son's journey toward the sea and an uncertain salvation. The world they pass through is a ghastly vision of scorched countryside and blasted cities "held by cores of blackened looters who tunneled. Ash moving over the road and the sagging hands of blind wire strung from the blackened lightpoles whining thinly in the wind. A burned house in a clearing and beyond that a reach of meadow-lands stark and gray and a raw red mudbank where a roadworks lay abandoned.

Learn about the ancient road from Winchester to Canterbury, keeping its prehistoric secrets, and sometimes obscured medieval pilgrimage route. This book was a joy, reminding me of the Pickwick Papers. Like Pickwick, Belloc and a friend start out on their quest on foot. If only Belloc had told more about his adventures at the inns along the way!4/5(3).

I will read anything by Hilaire Belloc, one of my very favorite writers. The 'old road' of the title refers to an ancient English road leading from Winchester to Canterbury.

Belloc relates its factual history, some of its lore, and his first-person encounter with it, retracing it on foot himself/5. The novel begins with the man and boy in the woods, the boy asleep, as the two of them are making their journey along the road. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world, date and place unnamed, though the reader can assume it's somewhere in what was the United States because the man tells the boy that they're walking the "state roads.".

Blending memoir, oral history, and narrative, Walking the Old Road reaches back to a time when Chippewa City, then called Nishkwakwansing (at the edge of the forest), was home to generations of Ojibwe ancestors.

The Old Road, which had for miles coincided with the lane, turned a sharp corner, and this, as I have already remarked, is so much against its nature in every known part of it, that I could only ascribe it to a cultivated field which has turned the road. Once tillage had begun, the road would be led round this field, and the old track, crossing.

Section 4 covers pages 83 to The snowfall is deep, and the man and the boy struggle to retrieve their cart. When they finally find it, they must leave it behind because of the snow. The man first makes better footwear for the boy and for himself, using the suit coats and : Cormac Mccarthy.

Summary The man and the boy come upon an old man ahead of them on the road. The man is wary of the old man, worrying that he's a decoy for roadagents. The old man is filthy and in poor shape. A roadbook is a diagrammatic book typically used by rally co-drivers and overland travelers to navigate across uncertain terrain.

Usually, the roadbook consists of several pages of tulip-diagrams [clarification needed], GPS co-ordinates and written instructions to assist in navigation.

In rally sport, the term pacenotes is more usual.
